The 7-item Travel Laundry Checklist
What every frequent flyer actually packs to skip the €15 hotel laundry fee. Print it, save it to your phone, share with your travel buddy.
A 30 ml travel detergent or soap leaves
Dr. Bronner's peppermint 30 ml bottle, or 4 grated soap leaves in a ziplock. Enough for 5-7 hand-washes. Don't bring hotel shampoo — it doesn't cut sweat or deodorant.
A flat microfibre towel (30 × 60 cm)
Doubles as a body towel and a clothes-pre-dry. Microfibre absorbs 7× its weight, so you can pre-wring a cotton t-shirt to nearly dry in 30 seconds. The less water that goes into your drying bag, the faster the whole cycle.
Sink-stopper or universal plug
Hotel sinks drain too fast. A flat silicone stopper (or the universal 2-pack from any travel kit) lets you actually fill the basin. Without it, you're hand-washing in a fountain.
3-4 clothespins or a small safety pin
For hanging underwear / socks on hotel hangers, or rigging a makeshift clothesline from the shower rod. Also useful for: broken zippers, lost buttons, hanging laundry on a backpack in transit.
Stain pen (Tide To Go or similar)
For the inevitable coffee / wine / curry splash before you can hand-wash. DAB — don't rub. Let it sit 5 minutes before washing. Saves a "this shirt is ruined" moment at the airport.
1 ziplock bag (gallon size)
For wet swimwear, dirty socks mid-trip, or a pre-wash dunk when you can't get to a sink. Clear ones let security see what's inside. Bonus: doubles as an ice pack or phone dry-bag in emergencies.
